a cut above...

Hair there and and everywhere…some would describe the bob’s ubiquity, having communicated a stylish attitude for roughly two full years now, as well past its peak. Every attention starved starlet, realizing that there’s no way to revitalize one’s waning press coverage like “celebri-bobbing” one’s heavy handed extensions, seized at least one chance to reincarnate as a sleek metropolitan sophisticate. Don’t get me wrong, I will always perk up at the sight of a sharply shorn bobbed mane, be it side swept, bowled, or bluntly bangin’…I did (and still do) love the bob, but as of this June I have completely fallen in love with the most simple of cuts…Rihanna’s Peter Pan crop is so right this summer, it’s almost wrong (how dare she render so many bobbed beauties outdated in with one pass of the barbering shears!?!?!) This cut subverts the heavy-handed chic of the bob, which can render its wearer a bit of a victim when accompanied by the season’s most directional apparel. The Peter Pan is so nonchalant, so easy in it’s attitude…still sharp but refreshingly effortless in its capture of that appeal. Of course, it’s yet another card from the Kate Moss rolodex of style (if you recall, she rocked much the same crop a few years back). In contrast to the Moss original, Rihanna’s raven interpretation is discernibly less sweat; it alludes to Liza, Audrey, and Diana far more than Mia, Edy, or Di. It is a breath of fresh air and most definitely catching my eye this summer!
